What haunted Iris Murdoch? And how is this expressed in both her fiction, philosophy, and personal writing? Although a writer roughly in the realist tradition of the novel her writing is often imbued with ghostly presences, the gothic, the occult, and even flying saucers! This lecture will bring together her writings across various disciplines and try to answer her own question: ‘what is the writer afraid of?’
