When?
The Summer School runs from the afternoon of Monday 4th to the afternoon of Thursday 7th August 2025.
What’s included?
We will be studying A Fairly Honourable Defeat, An Accidental Man, The Black Prince and The Sea, The Sea.
Teaching staff are:
- Dr Miles Leeson, Director of the IMRC at Chichester and author of numerous books on Murdoch.
- Dr Frances White, Deputy Director of the IMRC, author of the award-winning Becoming Iris Murdoch and Iris Murdoch and Remorse: Beyond Forgiving.
- Dr Gillian Dooley, author and editor of numerous works on Murdoch including From a Tiny Corner in the House of Fiction and Listening to Iris Murdoch: Music, Sounds and Silences
Also included:
- Welcome refreshments every morning, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner every day – on the final evening (Thursday) dinner is at a restaurant in town (included in price). All other meals on campus.
- A literary tour of the city of Chichester with a professional guide.
- A guided tour of Pallant House Art Gallery.
- Conference support team.
No prior knowledge required – all we ask is that you read the books, and the supplementary material we will send to you via email in advance. This is for the general reader, or those with a good knowledge of Murdoch’s works already.
Costs
- £350 per person (IM Society Price, membership is just £25 for UK members, £30 for non-UK members, £15 for students anywhere in the world per year)
- £400 (all others)
Accommodation
If you require accommodation on site the cost is £65 per person per night staying in single ensuite rooms and includes breakfast (English or Continental). More details to follow shortly.
