Saturday 19 February 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Iris Murdoch, 'December', with illustration by Reynold Stone, from ‘A Year of Birds’ (1933).

Dr Peter Webster

Saturday 19 February, 5.30-7 p.m.,

Cloisters, Bishop Otter Campus, University of Chichester

Free and open to all.

Iris Murdoch is rightly regarded as a religious novelist, of a certain kind. But what about the other side of the relationship: what did Christian readers in England make of her? This lecture examines Christian reactions to Murdoch, as both philosopher and novelist.

Dr Peter Webster is an independent scholar of contemporary religious history, with a particular interest in the religious arts. His most recent book was the first biography of Walter Hussey, dean of Chichester and patron of the arts.
